Baumann Earns MIAA Defensive Weekly Honors

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. - Saint Mary's College Soccer junior Brooke Baumann (Bartlett, IL) was named Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week for her performances in the Belles two wins last week.

Against the University of Olivet, Baumann and the Belles defense held the Comets to just one goal and two shots in a 5-1 victory. This was the least amount of shots the Belles have allowed all season, and the fifth time they have held a team to less than five shots.

Baumann also added to her goal total on the season as she converted a penalty kick in the 79th minute, the fifth of the goal for Saint Mary's and her second of the season.

The Belles dominated defensively in their second game of the week, taking home a 1-0 win at Alma College on Saturday. The Saint Mary's defense was as strong as they have been all season, holding the Scots to seven shots, their tenth time holding a team to single digit shots. This was also the sixth shutout of the season for the Belles.

The lone goal in the match came off the foot of Baumann who converted her second penalty in as many games in the 72nd minute.

In her 180 minutes played, Baumann and the Belles defense allowed just nine shots in the two victories and allowed just one goal. She scored two goals from the penalty spot, bringing her season total to three.

Baumann and the Belles host their regular season home finale on Wednesday, October 22, as they host Albion College at 4pm. The Belles close out the regular season with back-to-back road matches at Trine University, October 25, and at Hope College, October 28.
