Belles and Britons Battle to Draw in Wet Conditions

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Saint Mary's College Soccer drew with Albion College, 2-2, on Wednesday afternoon at a rainy Purcell Athletic Fields. The Belles move to 8-3-3 (2-3-1 MIAA) while the Britons move to 8-4-2 (1-3-2 MIAA).

Albion got on the board early with a goal in the fourth minute after a free kick was head flicked forward. Saint Mary's continued to press through the tough conditions and sophomore Kayla O'Neal (Carlsbad, CA) lobbed a short free kick into the box to find the foot of junior Brooke Baumann (Bartlett, IL) to tie the game at one a piece.

The teams headed into halftime tied with five shots each while Albion had a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks.

The Britons took a quick lead less than a minute into the second half after a corner kick ball would bounce off the leg of a Belles defender and find its way into the back of the net. The Saint Mary's press continued after senior Izzy Sherman (Fort Wayne, IN) played a through ball to sophomore Danielle Escobedo (Yorba Linda, CA) who crossed in and found the foot of senior Grace Reyda (Penfield, NY) to tie the match once again for her first goal of the season.

The teams continued to press one another's defense as the game progressed, but no one was able to take the final lead as the horn blew and the match ended two all.

Freshman Bella Musachio (Rochester Hills, MI) led the team with three shots while Escobedo, sophomore Isabella Kreydich (Tinley Park, IL) and freshman Mia Johnson (Mission Viejo, CA) added two each. Kreydich led with two shots on goal.

Baumann added her fourth goal of the season while Reyda tallied her first. Sherman, Escobedo, and O'Neal all tallied assists on the game. The Belles outshot the Britons 11-7 and 6-2 in shots on goal.
