NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Saint Mary's College Lacrosse junior
Lana Skibins (Granger, IN) was named Belles Athlete of the Week for her performance this past weekend.
Skibins and the Belles took home a dominating 19-4 win over Elmhurst University in their home opener on Saturday. The win marked the most wins in the teams first six games of a season, starting the 2026 season 5-1.
Skibins kicked off her day with an early assist less than a minute into the game before adding two more a minute apart from each other in the second quarter. Between the end of the third quarter and the start of the fourth quarter, Skibins would add three more assists to bring her total to an incredible six on the day. Her six assists not only set a career-high for the junior but also ties a program record and is the fourth time in program history that a player has tallied six assists in a game.
She has tallied an assist in five of the Belles six games this season and added multiple in four games. She has already set a career high for assists in a season (15) while only being less than half way through the schedule.
Skibins and the Belles take the field three times this week as they head on the road back-to-back days on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Tuesday, Saint Mary's will head south to take on Franklin College while on Wednesday they head north to play Beloit College, both make-up games from earlier in the season. They then return home on Friday, March 27 to host the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
