Carens and Lulich Take Belles Weekly Honor

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Saint Mary's College Volleyball senior Caroline Carens (Naperville, IL) and Cross Country freshman Adelaide Lulich (Canonsburg, PA) took home Belles Athlete of the Week honors this week. This is the fourth time for both student-athletes earning the honor.

Carens led the team with 11 kills on the match while hitting an impressive .409. This totaled her 20th match this season hitting double digit kills as she moved into fifth in program history in career kills (1,038) and surpassed her junior year total for the most kills in a season in her career. It was also her 16th match of the year hitting above the .300 threshold as her season hitting percentage jumped to .357.

Defensively, Carens led the team with four block assists and two solo blocks on the match. This brought her season total to 91 total blocks as she sits with 20 solo and 71 assists, the most in a season in her career.

Lulich led the field as the individual winner at Saturday's MIAA Championships, becoming the first runner in program history to take the individual title at the conference championship. This was the freshman's fourth win of the season as she continues to add on to her record of most wins in a season and career by a Belle.

Lulich finished the race with a time of 21:32.5 which was a personal best time. That time also set the program record for a 6k race, beating out the previous time by almost 16 seconds. Lulich stayed at the front of the pack the majority of the race before pulling away at the end and finishing almost seven seconds ahead of the second place finisher.

Carens and the Belles finish out the regular season this week, starting on Wednesday with a trip to Adrian College for a 7pm matchup before returning home to close out the regular season hosting Trine University on Saturday at 1pm. The Belles will also celebrate Carens during their Senior Day celebration that day as they continue to push towards the MIAA Tournament.

Lulich and Belles Cross Country shift their focus to the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional race on November 14. The race will be held at Forest Akers East in East Lansing, MI.
