FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. - Saint Mary's College Soccer sophomore Kayla O'Neal (Carlsbad, CA) was named Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week after heading the Belles defense this past week.
Saint Mary's would earn two draws over the past week, 1-1 against Anderson University and 0-0 against Wheaton College. O'Neal and the Belles defense would allow just 14 total shots over the two matches while allowing just four shots on goal.
O'Neal would be one of three Belles outfield players to play all 180 minutes during the two games. She would also tally two shots and one shot on goal of her own.
The draw for Saint Mary's against Wheaton was an important result as the Thunder had defeated fellow MIAA opponent, Trine University, two weeks prior.
As a team, the Belles goal against average sits at .500 which places them tied for 44th in all of Division III. The team also ranks tied for 23rd in won-loss-tied percentage (.917). These stats are updated through games on September 18.
The Belles sit at 5-0-2 on the season and conclude non-conference play on Wednesday when they host Earlham College for a 4pm matchup from the Purcell Athletic Fields. Saint Mary's opens conference play on Tuesday, September 30, as they travel to take on Kalamazoo College. The Belles home MIAA opener will take place on October 4 when they host Calvin University.
