FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. - Saint Mary's College Softball freshman
Isabelle Hochmuth (St. Louis, MO) and sophomore
Aubrey Zachary (Granger, IN) were named All-MIAA on Wednesday, voted on by league coaches. Hochmuth was named All-MIAA First Team while Zachary was named All-MIAA Second Team.
Â
This is the first time earning the honor for both student-athletes in their first seasons at Saint Mary's. Hochmuth becomes the fifth freshman in program history to earn First Team Honors while this is the first time since 2021 that Saint Mary's has had multiple honorees and the first since 2018 with at least one on each team.
Â
Hochmuth led the Belles in almost every offensive category this season and had one of the best offensive seasons for a Belle in eight seasons. The freshman finished the year with an impressive .430 batting average while adding in an incredible .807 slugging and .481 on-base percentage for an impressive 1.288 OPS. Hochmuth added a team high 49 hits with 23 extra base hits including 12 doubles, two triples, and launched nine home runs on the season, third most in a season in program history. She also added 16 games with multiple hits this season including seven of the final eight games.
Â
She also tallied a team high 48 RBIs, including an impressive seven against Manchester University, while adding 12 walks and three hits by pitches. Impressively, Hochmuth struck out just three times in 114 plate appearances on the year, the lowest of all qualified hitters. On the bases, Hochmuth added 10 stolen bases, tied for third on the team. Defensively, she played a strong center field, adding a .970 fielding percentage on 66 total chances.
Â
Zachary led the Belles pitching staff, while only being available for the final month of the season. After an injury sidelined the sophomore transfer early in her Saint Mary's career, Zachary made 12 appearances and nine starts across the team's final 20 games in April. She added six complete games while finishing the year with an impressive 7-3 record and going 5-3 in MIAA play. Zachary finished the year with 57 innings pitched, allowing just 24 earned runs on 61 hits.Â
Â
She tallied 51 strikeouts, the most in a season since 2019. Zachary tallied at least two strikeouts in every start and 11 of 12 appearances. She sat down a career high nine batters in the win over the University of Olivet before closing the season with three straight starts with six or more strikeouts. Zachary took home wins in each of her final five starts, including four in conference. She allowed two runs or fewer in nine appearances, including six starts while tallying her first shutout against Albion College. The sophomore also allowed zero walks in four different starts this season.
Â
Hochmuth and Zachary helped lead the Belles to a 19-21 overall record and 6-10 MIAA record. This was a nine-win improvement from the previous season in the second season under the direction of Head Coach Jordyn Walter.
