Amanda Melling (East Lansing, MI) and Softball sophomore
Aubrey Zachary (Granger, IN) were named Belles Athletes of the Week after their performances last week.

Melling led the Belles to a team title at the MIAA Championships this past week as the Belles secured their third straight MIAA Title and NCAA Division III National Championship appearance. The team finished the weekend shooting 307-299, the 299 was the lowest team score of the season for the Belles. Their 606 weekend score was also the lowest 36-hole score in program history.

Melling led the team as the tournament champions, shooting a one-over 145 after carding rounds of 72-73. She tallied six birdies on the tournament, adding three in each round.Melling got hot across her final nine holes in round one, adding her three birdies to finish her second nine two-under par. In round two, she added three birdies across her final 15 holes, while birdieing her final hole of the tournament, along with 11 pars.Â

Zachary helped the Belles to a 3-1 record on the week, including a sweep of Anderson University and a split with Alma College, while going 2-0 in the circle. Zachary threw 12 innings in two complete game wins.

Against Anderson, she threw five innings and allowed five runs on ten hits while striking out three batters. She stepped up big in game two of their MIAA double header with the Scots. Throwing all seven innings and allowing just two earned runs on eight hits. Zachary also struck out an impressive eight batters on the afternoon, her third time striking out at least five in a game this season.

Melling and Belles Golf prepare for their third straight NCAA Division III Championships beginning on May 19. The team will travel to Palm Desert, CA to compete at Desert Willow Golf Resort.

Zachary and Belles Softball finish off their season this week as they host Adrian College on Wednesday in their home finale at 3/5pm. They then head on the road for their season finale at Albion College on Friday, May 1, at 1/3pm.
