BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - Saint Mary's College STUNT earned a split in their final regular season tournament of the season on Sunday at the Ferris State Tournament, defeating Quincy University 26-14 and falling to Central Michigan University 23-12. The Belles move to 10-12 to close out the regular season.
Saint Mary's vs Quincy
Saint Mary's kicked off the match with a win in round two of quarter one before the teams would split in the fourth round to give the Belles an early 2-1 lead. The Belles and Hawks split the first two rounds of the pyramids and tosses quarter before the Belles bounced back and took wins in rounds three and four to head into halftime with a strong 6-3 lead.
The Belles came out and dominated in the third quarter, winning all four rounds to extend their lead. The first three rounds were won with the teams within two deductions of each other, Saint Mary's taking two points in each round before winning the final round. After their strong third, the Belles went into the final quarter with a 13-6 lead. Saint Mary's took a 3-2 advantage from the first round in quarter four before no points were awarded in round two. The Belles then took two points in five of the final six rounds to close out their dominant 26-14 win over Quincy.
Saint Mary's vs Central Michigan
The first quarter started slow for both teams as points were only scored in the second round. Central Michigan took a win within two deductions in routine one to take a 2-1 lead into the break. The Chippewas would take three round wins in the second quarter while taking points in all four. The Belles took a win in round two on routine two, within two deductions, and earned a single point in round three, heading into halftime trailing 7-4.
The two sides played fairly evenly in quarter three, splitting rounds one and three before Central Michigan took wins in rounds two and four, giving them an 11-6 lead heading into the fourth. While the Belles stayed competitive in the fourth quarter, the Chippewas continued to hold them in check, outscoring them 12-6 in the final quarter, taking home the 23-12 win.
