Belles Sweep Ashland Tournament

ASHLAND, Ohio. - Saint Mary's College STUNT earned back-to-back big wins on Saturday at the Ashland Tournament, 25-12 over Walsh University and 25-21 over Misericordia University. The Belles improve to 6-11 on the year.

Saint Mary's vs Walsh

Walsh started the match with a 2-1 win in the first round of the first quarter before Saint Mary's would take round three and go into the first quarter break tied 2-2. The teams continued to trade points in the second quarter, each winning two rounds. The Cavaliers took round one and both teams earned points in round three, Walsh taking two, while the Belles took wins in rounds two and four to go into halftime tied 5-5.

Saint Mary's erupted in the third quarter to win all four rounds within two deductions, outscoring Walsh, 8-4. Quarter three was done with routines one through four and the Belles showed why they are still one of the best Jumps and Tumbling teams in Division III. They didn't stop there as they continued their second half domination into the fourth quarter. Once again, Saint Mary's would win all four rounds in quarter four while outscoring Walsh, 12-3, and taking multiple points in each round. The Belles dominated the quarter as they took at least two points in all four rounds and took four points in rounds one and two en route to their 25-12 victory.

Saint Mary's vs Misericordia

Misericordia came out and took the first round of quarter one before neither team was awarded points in rounds two and three. Saint Mary's battled back and earned a win in round four, within two deductions, to go into the first break tied, 2-2. The Belles took their first lead of the match after taking a win in round one of the Pyramids and Tosses quarter. The two teams split points in round two before trading round wins, within two deductions, in rounds three and four to go into halftime with the Belles leading, 7-6.

The teams continued to fight back-and-forth coming out of halftime. As the Belles and Cougars went back and forth winning rounds in quarter three, all rounds scored within two deductions. This allowed Saint Mary's to hold onto their one point lead, 13-12, heading into the final quarter. The Belles came out hot in quarter four. They would take wins in the first two rounds by scores of 3-1 and 5-2 to extend their lead. The Cougars would bounce back and take rounds three and four, but only by a single point each, 4-3 and 2-1, allowing the Belles to hold onto their lead and finish off a massive 25-21 win to sweep the day.

UP NEXT FOR THE BELLES

Saint Mary's will head to the University of Olivet on March 28-29 as they take on the Mid-America Central Conference Championship. The Belles will compete in a double elimination tournament with fellow conference mates Buena Vista University, Olivet, and St. Norbert College.
