Belles Close Out Valentine’s Tournament

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Saint Mary's College STUNT split the final day of their Valentine's Tournament, falling to St. Edwards University, 20-16, and defeated the University of Michigan, 22-11. The Belles move to 4-4 on the season.
 
Saint Mary's vs St. Edwards
St. Edwards opened the game with a strong first quarter, taking points in the first three rounds to head into the first break with a 4-1 lead. Saint Mary's bounced back to take the first round of the pyramids and tosses quarter before the Hilltoppers would take the second round before taking two points in round three while the Belles took one to go into halftime with a 7-3 lead.
 
The Belles kicked off the third quarter by taking five points and cutting the Hilltoppers lead to 11-8. Saint Mary's then came out and took two points in the first round of the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to just one. The teams stayed equal after the second round with both teams taking two points. St. Edwards took four points in the third round while Saint Mary's earned two to bring their lead back to three. The Hilltoppers would outscore the Belles 3-2 in the final round to close out their 20-16 win.
 
Saint Mary's vs Michigan
After Saint Mary's took the first round of the game, Michigan came back and took rounds two and four. Both teams earned points in round three, allowing the Wolverines to head into the first break ahead, 3-2. The Belles bounced back strong in the second quarter, outscoring the Wolverines 5-2 in the quarter. Saint Mary's scored points in three of the four rounds to take a 7-5 lead into halftime.
 
The Belles came out and took the first round of the third quarter before the teams split round two. Saint Mary's closed out the quarter by taking round four as both teams were scored within two deductions of each other, giving the Belles two points and the Wolverines one, sending the Belles with an 11-7 lead going into the final quarter.
 
Saint Mary's closed out the game with a dominant fourth quarter, scoring 11 points in total. The Belles took multiple points in every round while taking three in the final three rounds to outscore the Wolverines, 11-4, and take home their 22-11 win.
 
UP NEXT FOR THE BELLES
Saint Mary's will be back in action on February 21 for a single match at Purdue University Northwest before heading to New Concord, OH for the Muskingum Tournament where they will take on Muskingum University and Malone University.
