NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Saint Mary's College STUNT split their first two games of the Valentine's Tournament, defeating Buena Vista University, 11-1, and falling to George Fox University, 20-10. The Belles move to 1-3 to open the 2026 season.
Saint Mary's vs Buena Vista
Saint Mary's took control of the first half against Buena Vista, heading into the halftime break with a 5-1 lead. The Belles would take the first round of the first quarter before taking four points in the second quarter including rounds one, two, and three in routines three, two, and one.
After a slow start to the third quarter, the Belles took the final round of the quarter to add to their lead. Saint Mary's would then take five points in the fourth quarter after sweeping round one and earning two points off of two Buena Vista technical fouls.
Saint Mary's vs George Fox
George Fox took points in the first three rounds of the first quarter to take a 3-0 lead into the first quarter break. The Bruins would continue their hot start by sweeping the second quarter, going into halftime with a 7-0 advantage.
Saint Mary's came out strong in the third quarter as the two teams both scored four points in the quarter while the Belles took rounds one and three in routines three and four while also earning points in each round.
Both teams came out strong in the fourth quarter, both earning at least one point in each round. The Belles closed out the match with a strong performance in the fourth quarter round four, earning the lone point of the round in the jumps and tumbling portion of routine six.
The Belles impressed in the second half of the match, earning at least one point in every round and shutting out the defending National Champions in three rounds.
UP NEXT FOR THE BELLES
Saint Mary's returns to action tomorrow for the second day of the Valentine's Tournament. The Belles will take on Maryville College at 10am and Centenary College (LA) at 1pm. The Belles close out the tournament on Sunday hosting St. Edwards University and the University of Michigan.
On Saturday, the Belles will host their annual Morgan's Message game against Maryville and will celebrate Senior Day at halftime of the Centenary game.
