GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Saint Mary's College Lacrosse fell to Calvin University on Saturday afternoon in their regular season road finale, 18-2. The Belles fall to 5-9 (2-4 MIAA) while the Knights improve to 11-3 (5-0 MIAA).
Calvin would get out to a hot start, scoring nine goals in the first quarter to shut out Saint Mary's heading into the first break. The Belles would come out and get on the board less than two minutes into the second quarter as sophomore Cate Krema (Western Springs, IL) would find the back of the net. The Knights would add on four more goals in the second quarter, going into halftime with a 13-1 lead.
Calvin would add one goal in the third quarter before tacking on three in the fourth before Saint Mary's would get back in the scoring column. Freshman Piper Downey (Northbrook, IL) would get in on the action with her first goal of the game. Calvin would add a final goal with 15 seconds to play to close out their 18-2 victory.
Krema and Downey would add the two goals in the game for Saint Mary's. Krema would also lead the team with three shots while sophomore Rachel Speckhard (Munster, IN) and freshman Annabelle Spruill (Brookhaven, GA) would add two shots each.
Senior goalkeeper Emma Zmudzinski (Granger, IN) would record 10 saves in the first half of play while freshman goalkeeper Kaya Seaboy (Evansville, IN) would record 10 saves in the second half. Seaboy's 10 saves are a collegiate career high for the freshman.
