NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Saint Mary's College Basketball fell to Albion College on Wednesday night in the penultimate game of the season, 69-65. The Belles fall to 6-18 (3-12 MIAA) while the Britons improve to 11-14 (9-7 MIAA).
Both teams traded baskets early but Albion was able to pull ahead to end the first quarter leading, 16-12. The Britons would outshoot the Belles 70% to 38% in the quarter. Sophomore Kate Restovich (Wildwood, MO) led the team with six points in the quarter.
Albion would double their lead in the second quarter, leading 34-26 at the halftime break. The Belles would shoot an incredible 62% from the field in the quarter as senior Julia Schutz (Dyer, IN) would score seven in the quarter to take her to nine points at the break.
Saint Mary's would outscore Albion in the third quarter but the Britons led by six going into the final ten minutes, 51-45. Both teams continued to shoot well from the field as Albion would outshoot Saint Mary's 66% to 46% from the field. Schutz would double her point total to move up to 18 points while Restovich would move into double figures with 10.
The Belles would come out strong in the fourth quarter, aided by some incredible noise from the stands, they would tie the game at 55 off a three pointer from senior Lauren Gumma (Troy, MI). However, the Britons would sneak away at the end thanks to a few free throws and come out on top for the second time this season.
Schutz would lead the game with 31 points, her second time surpassing 30 points this season (32 vs Lake Forest on November 9), she would also grab a team high six rebounds. Restovich would add 12 to round out double-digit scorers. Freshman Kate Passinault (Grand Rapids, MI) would dish out a career high five assists to lead the team. As a team, the Belles would shoot a season best 48.9% from the field, going 23 for 47.

Saint Mary's completes the regular season on Saturday as they host Adrian College for a 1pm tipoff. The Belles will also be celebrating Senior Day and honoring seniors Julia Schutz and Lauren Gumma.
