ANGOLA, Ind. - Saint Mary's College Basketball fell to 15th ranked Trine University on Saturday, 81-61. The Belles fall to 4-15 (1-9 MIAA) while the Thunder improve to 18-2 (11-0 MIAA).
Both teams would come out hot in the first quarter, both shooting 50% or better from the field, as Trine would take an early 20-19 lead after Saint Mary's would lead 11-3 early in the game. Senior Julia Schutz (Dyer, IN) would put up seven points in the quarter to lead the Belles.
They would both continue to shoot well in the second quarter, but it was a 58% to 40% advantage for the Thunder that saw their lead grow going into halftime, 39-34. Sophomore Annie Restovich (Wildwood, MO) would light up the floor in the second quarter as she would go 4 for 5 from three point to keep the Belles in the game and finish the first half with 12 points.
Even with Saint Mary's shooting an incredible 54% from the field to open the third quarter, Trine would capitalize on forcing six turnovers to extend their lead to 60-47 heading into the final quarter. Three Belles would move into double-figures as Schutz and sophomore Kate Restovich (Wildwood, MO) would join Annie Restovich.
While the Thunder would stay hot in the fourth quarter, the Belles would go cold from the field, shooting just 29% from the field in the final ten minutes. Trine would close out their 10th straight win 81-61. Saint Mary's would finish the game shooting 42% from the field, their fourth time shooting above 40% this season.
Annie Restovich would tie her career high with 21 points to lead the game, her second time scoring 21 this season (her last coming against Augustana). Schutz would finish with 11 points and Kate Restovich would finish with 10. Schutz would also lead the team with eight rebounds and five assists.
