NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Saint Mary's College Volleyball fell to Calvin University on Tuesday night, 3-0. The Belles fall to 8-11 (0-4 MIAA) while the Knights improve to 13-7 (2-1 MIAA).
The Belles and Knights celebrated the annual Red Glasses Match as they helped raise awareness for the Red Glasses Movement and help provide everyone with a pair of red glasses to honor Audrey Louise and see the world the way she did and LIVE BOLDLY, LOVE BIG, PASS IT ALONG.
Both teams went back and forth in the first set until Calvin was able to pull ahead and keep their lead to take the first set, 25-20. Saint Mary's junior Delaney Martin (North Judson, IN) led the team in kills in the first set with four while freshman Giuliana Graczyk (Chicago, IL) tallied four assists.
The Knights came out hot in the second set and used a .324 hitting percentage to take the second set handley, 25-16. Martin brought her kill total to six in the set while three other Belles moved to three kills. Graczyk recorded five assists to bring her total to nine.
Calvin took an early lead in the third set, but Saint Mary's was able to mount a comeback before the Knights halted it and finished the match with a 25-23 victory. Calvin used 15 kills in the set, their most of the night, to finish off the Belles.
Freshman Kalli Lewkowski (Spring Lake, MI) led the Belles with eight kills while Martin finished with seven. Senior Cali Allen (Berrien Springs, MI) recorded six and sophomore Caroline Carens (Naperville, IL) had five. Graczyk finished with 14 assists while sophomore Abby Reese (Elkhart, IN) finished with 12. Junior Karli Fegan (Orland Park, IL) led the team with 15 digs while Allen finished with 14.
UP NEXT FOR THE BELLES
Saint Mary's opens a two match road trip on October 23 when they head to take on Adrian College with a 7pm start. The Belles then travel to Kalamazoo College on November 2 to take on the Hornets at 1pm before returning home to host Albion College on November 23.
