ADRIAN, Mich. - Saint Mary's College Volleyball fell to Adrian College on Wednesday night, 3-1. The Belles fall to 8-12 (0-5 MIAA) while the Bulldogs improve to 6-11 (3-3 MIAA).
Adrian took an early lead in the match as they took down Saint Mary's easily in the first set, 25-12. The Bulldogs used a 12-3 run early in the set to get ahead quickly and forced the Belles to eight errors in the set.
Both teams played the second set evenly but Saint Mary's was able to even the match at one a piece with a 25-20 win. Sophomore Caroline Carens (Naperville, IL) led the Belles to this point with eight kills while freshman Giuliana Graczyk (Chicago, IL) moved into double-digit assists with 14.
Both teams were close in the third set but it was multiple short runs and a .391 hitting percentage by Adrian that brought them out on top, 25-18. Carens moved to double-digit kills with 13 while Graczyk brought her assist total to 22.
While it looked like Saint Mary's was about to send it to a fifth set as they led late in the fourth, Adrian used an 11-2 run to close out the match with a 25-19 victory. The Bulldogs tallied 13 kills in the set for the third time tonight and forced the Belles to nine errors.
Carens led the team with 17 total kills on the night, a season-high for the sophomore, while senior Cali Allen (Berrien Springs, MI) would tally eight and freshman Kalli Lewkowski (Spring Lake, MI) would record seven. Graczyk would lead the match with 32 assists, a new collegiate career high for the freshman. Junior Karli Fegan (Orland Park, IL) led the match with 24 digs, her fifth time this season with 20+. Graczyk would record 16 digs while junior Delaney Martin (North Judson, IN) and sophomore Abby Reese (Elkhart, IN) would record 13 and 11 respectively.

Saint Mary's concludes the short road trip on November 2 when they travel to take on Kalamazoo College starting at 1pm. The Belles and Hornets met earlier this season in non-conference play as Saint Mary's came out victorious, 3-1. Carens led that match with 15 kills while Reese led with 21 assists.
