NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - The Saint Mary's volleyball team bounced back from a 3-2 (25-21, 25-27, 25-13, 19-25, 16-14) loss to Rose-Hulman with a 3-1 (25-11, 16-25, 25-22, 25-21) win over host Manchester on Saturday.
Against Rose-Hulman, the Belles edged out the Fightin' Engineers in a 27-25 second set to even the match. Saint Mary's then bounced back from a tough third set with a 25-19 win in the fourth to force a deciding fifth set. The Belles came back from two three-point deficits, which included being down 14-11 before tying the set at 14-14 with a kill by
Hannah Stacy, a block by
Colleen McCarthy, and a kill by McCarthy. Rose-Hulman, however, used a kill and a Saint Mary's attack error to take the set 16-14 and the five-set decision.
Against the host Spartans, the Belles captured the opening set in decisive fashion after building a 10-2 lead before closing the set on a 10-0 run. Manchester had a 8-1 run of their own in the second set and took the stanza 25-16. Saint Mary's never trailed in the third set, and the Belles came back from an early deficit in the fourth to take the 3-1 win over Manchester to avenge a loss earlier this season against the Spartans.
The Belles (7-11) travel to Albion on Tuesday evening for a conference match against the Brits starting at 7:00 p.m.
