Saint Mary's College

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Saint Mary's College fell to Lake Forest College, 1-0, in a hard fought match on Saturday afternoon. The Belles move to 3-3-1 on the year while the Foresters improve to 9-0-1.
 
Saint Mary's and Lake Forest also celebrated the Belles annual Morgan's Message game to raise awareness for student-athlete mental health.
 
Both offenses went back and forth throughout the early portion of the first half. Saint Mary's had the early lead on shots as they tested the Lake Forest defense with two shots in the first four minutes. The Foresters added two corners of their own in that time. Lake Forest used some strong play from their left hand side to get ahead and take a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute. This would hold through the final 27 minutes as they went into halftime with the lead.
 
Lake Forest's offense continued to pepper the Saint Mary's defense early in the second half. In the first 15 minutes of the half, the Foresters tallied two shots and six corner kicks. The two offenses would be slowed down as the defenses began to control the second half, seeing the game come to its 1-0 final score.
 
Sophomore Mia Johnson (Mission Viejo, CA) led the team with two shots while her and junior Isabella Kreydich (Tinley Park, IL) added one shot on goal each. Three Belles defenders played all 90 minutes in senior Brooke Baumann (Bartlett, IL), junior Kayla O'Neal (Carlsbad, CA), and freshman Chloe Knese (St. Louis, MO).
 
In goal, sophomore Meghan Krayer (Hinsdale, IL) made two saves on the afternoon while facing 11 total shots and three shots on goal.

Saint Mary's returns to action on Wednesday, September 30, as they host Hope College for their MIAA opener at 6pm.
