Belles Continue Hot Start with Third Straight Win

FRANKLIN, Ind. - Saint Mary's College Lacrosse earned another dominating win on Tuesday night, 18-4 over Franklin College. The Belles improve to 6-1 on the year while the Grizzlies fall to 2-4.
 
Senior Alyssa Grant (Oak Lawn, IL) got the scoring started less than a minute into the game as she put the Belles ahead early with an assist from junior Lana Skibins (Granger, IN). Junior Rachel Speckhard (Munster, IN) followed that up with back-to-back goals of her own to extend the lead with assists from both Skibins and junior Kathryn Kalinowski (Atlanta, GA). Franklin was able to add a goal shortly after Speckhard's second to cut into the lead.
 
Saint Mary's continued to dominate offensively as they would go on a quick 4-0 run over the next four minutes. Speckhard added her third goal of the quarter and game before junior Kelsey King (Sylvania, OH) added a goal of her own 20 seconds later. Speckhard then added her fourth goal in the first 10 minutes of game play. Junior Anneliese Kalman (Matthews, NC) tallied her first goal of the game to close out the run. In the 4-0 stretch, Skibins added two more assists while King added one as well. The Grizzlies added a goal while a man up before Kalinowski found the back of the net with less than two minutes to play while Skibins tacked on her fifth assist of the quarter, sending the Belles into the first break leading 8-2.
 
The second quarter would be all Saint Mary's as they outscored Franklin 5-0 in the quarter. King added her second goal of the day before Grant followed it up shortly after with a goal of her own with an assist from Kalinowski. With just under six minutes to play, freshman Shelby Forsythe (Granger, IN) snagged her first collegiate goal. Freshman June McMahon (River Forest, IL) and Skibins both tacked on man-up goals with less than four minutes to play to close out the half, putting the Belles up 13-2 at the halftime break.
 
Franklin scored the first of a quiet third quarter for both teams before Grant tacked on another for the Belles with three and a half minutes to play. Grant's goal was aided by an assist from fellow senior Mary Grace Heekin (Fayetteville, GA) to send Saint Mary's into the fourth quarter with a 14-3 advantage.
 
Speckhard kicked off the scoring just 22 seconds into the quarter for her fifth goal of the game with an assist from Kalinowski. Franklin tacked on their final goal two minutes later. With under seven minutes to play, Forsythe added her second goal of the game while Skibins snagged her sixth assist. Grant then found the back of the net while the Belles were down a man with a pass from Speckhard. With just six seconds remaining in the game, Skibins found the net for her second goal of the game while Kalinowski tacked on her fourth assist of the game.
 
Speckhard led the team with five goals on the day while Grant added four. This is the sixth straight game with at least three goals for Speckhard and the fifth straight for Grant. Skibins, King, and Forsythe all added two goals as well.
 
Skibins added her second straight game with six assists for the Belles, once again tying the program record, and becoming the first Belle in program history to add back-to-back six assist games. Kalinowski also shined with assists as she added four, her third straight game with at least three assists. 
 
Defensively, Kalman and junior Sophia Delgado (Indianapolis, IN) added four ground balls each. Speckhard, Heekin, and freshman Ella Klingerman (Noblesville, IN) added three each. Klingerman also led the team with five caused turnovers and three draw controls.
 
In goal, sophomore Kaya Seaboy (Evansville, IN) made three saves on the night while facing seven shots on goal.
 
UP NEXT FOR THE BELLES
Saint Mary's will hit the road for the second day in a row on Wednesday as they head to Beloit, WI to take on Beloit College in a rescheduled game, starting at 5pm est. The Belles return home on Friday, March 27, as they host the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point for their non-conference finale.
