NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Saint Mary's College Soccer kept their opening win streak alive with a strong 5-0 win over Bluffton University on Saturday. The Belles improve to 4-0 to open the year while the Beavers fell to 1-3.
Saint Mary's would dominate the game in the first half, outshooting Bluffton 9-2 in the first half alone. The Belles would get on the board with a goal from freshman Mia Johnson (Mission Viejo, CA) as she slotted in a pass from freshman Bella Musachio (Rochester Hills, MI). Shortly after, sophomore Isabella Kreydich (Tinley Park, IL) would double the lead thanks to a couple passes from Musachio and sophomore Kayla O'Neal (Carlsbad, CA).
The scoring would stop there for the Belles in the first half as Kreydich would secure her brace with less than five minutes to play after receiving a pass back from senior Grace Reyda (Penfield, NY), she would slot a beautiful long ball over the keepers head into the right side of the net.
Saint Mary's continued to dominate offensively to open the second half and would be rewarded in the 68th minute as sophomore Danielle Escobedo (Yorba Linda, CA) would catch the back end of a ball bouncing off a couple defenders and slot it past the Beavers goalkeeper to take the lead to four.
The Belles would not slow down all afternoon as Johnson would secure her brace after going straight through four Beaver defenders and beating the keeper by herself.
Saint Mary's would outshoot Bluffton 19-3,10-2 in shots on goal, throughout the game while also tallying more corner kicks than the Beavers with an 8-1 advantage.
Johnson would lead the team with six shots while Kreydich would add four. Junior Eleah Hedstrom (St. Joseph, MI) would add three shots as well. Johnson would also lead the team with four shots on goal while Kreydich had two.
Sophomore goalkeeper Keona Caraballo (Parma, OH) would tally her second shutout of the season and made two saves in the game. Freshman goalkeeper Meghan Krayer (Hinsdale, IL) would make her first appearance of the season in the second half as well.
