Slove's Brace Earns Belles Win in Home Opener

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Saint Mary's College Soccer took down Knox College in their home opener on Saturday, 3-0. The Belles improve to 1-2 on the season while the Prairie Fire fall to 0-2.

Saint Mary's came out of the gates hot and were peppering the Knox defense all day. The Belles took a 1-0 lead at the 25:15 mark when sophomore Margaret Slove scored her first of the day before extending the lead herself with a goal less than five minutes later to make it 2-0 going into halftime and secure her brace. Freshmen Danielle Escobedo and Taylor London got in on the action with an assist each.

The Belles didn't stop there as just two minutes into the second half, senior Izzi Linus would put her name on the score sheet to extend the Belles lead to three. Senior Mary Kaczynski got in on the action with an assist on the goal while Slove played a part as well with an assist. 

Saint Mary's was in full control all afternoon as they outshot Knox 31-1 and were dominant in shots on goal with a 19-0 advantage. It was an entire team effort as 22 different Belles saw the field of play with 11 different players recording a shot and eight of them recording multiple. Slove led the way with seven shots, Kaczynski had five, Linus had four, junior Grace Reyda and freshman Yulissa Gallegos both recorded three, and senior Grace Barresi, sophomore Layne Ridderman, and London all recorded two.

UP NEXT FOR THE BELLES:

Saint Mary's returns to action on Tuesday, September 10, when they host Indiana University-South Bend for a cross town rivalry match with kickoff set for 5pm. This will be the final match of the opening home stand before the travel to Franklin, Indiana for one match before they return home for two.
