Belles Fall in MIAA Opener

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Saint Mary's College Basketball fell to Calvin University on Saturday afternoon in their MIAA opening game, 70-32. The Belles fall to 3-5 (0-1 MIAA) while the Knights improve to 4-5 (1-0 MIAA).

Both teams were even opening the game, but Calvin was able to kick things off with an 11-2 run in the first quarter that saw them go into the first break with a 16-9 lead. The Knights would stay hot as they would use a 17-3 run to open the second quarter to outrun the Belles and help give them a 33-17 lead going into the halftime break. Sophomore Annie Restovich (Wildwood, MO) would lead the team with six points while freshmen Kate Passinault (Grand Rapids, MI) and Ella Notaro (Crystal Lake, IL) would each put up four.

The Knights continued to overpower the Belles in the second half as they would use a 10-0 run in the third and a 12-4 run in the fourth to finish off the Belles, 70-32. Both teams would struggle from the field as the Belles shot 20% and the Knights shot 31% while shooting 16% and 25% from three.

Restovich and Passinault led the team with six points each while senior Lauren Gumma (Troy, MI) and sophomore Kate Restovich (Wildwood, MO) each recorded five. Kate Restovich would also lead the team with two assists while Passinault would grab a team high nine rebounds.
