Belles Take Two Wins on Opening Day

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Saint Mary's volleyball team earned a 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-16) win over Marian (Wisconsin) before defeating host Lake Forest 3-1 (17-25, 25-15, 25-22, 25-22) on day one of the Forester Invitational on Friday evening.
 
Alyssa Chong had six kills and posted a .364 attack percentage while Nicole Lukens chipped in six kills with a .312 attack percentage in the sweep over Marian. Lindsey Pelletier was right in-stride with Chong and Lukens as she added five kills with a .364 attack percentage. Brittney Tarkanyi had a team-best 13 digs, and Lukens added 12 digs. Morgan VanderWey and Claire Hennessy each recorded 11 assists, and Hennessy served up three aces in the win.
 
Megan Collantes had a big performance for the Belles with a match-high 18 kills and 22 digs for her first collegiate double-double against the host Foresters. The freshman posted a .341 attack percentage in the victory. Nicole Lukens narrowly missed a double-double of her own with nine kills and 14 digs. Morgan VanderWey registered 35 assists and 14 digs. Lindsey Pelletier chipped in seven digs, and Brittney Tarkanyi had a match-high 24 digs to pace the defensive efforts.
 

The Belles (2-0) take on Loras and Illinois Tech on day two of the Forester Invitational at Lake Forest starting at 10:00 a.m. CDT.
