Building off of their eighth MIAA Championship and ninth NCAA Championship Tournament appearance, the Saint Mary’s golf team has their sights set on another successful year.

Returning from the 2018-19 squad are juniors Hunter Kehoe and Summer Stillson along with sophomores Sydney Hruskoci, Hannah Finley, and Maggie Sexton. Kehoe claimed MIAA Most Valuable Golfer and Season Medalist accolades while tying for the second-lowest MIAA scoring average in the history of the sport in conference play last fall. The junior also earned MIAA Golfer of the Week recognition a record-breaking seven times during the 2018-19 academic year. Stillson finished the fall conference slate just five strokes behind Kehoe for her second consecutive First Team All-MIAA honor. She added seven rounds in the 70s during the fall season to provide a strong tandem with her classmate as the pair combined to card 26 rounds below 80 in the 2018-19 academic year.

Hruskoci, Finley, and Sexton were all key contributors a year ago and will be looked upon to help lead the squad. Hruskoci was a First Team All-MIAA performer in her first season as she notched a conference scoring average below 80 last fall. Finley garnered MIAA Golfer of the Week accolades in the spring after a stellar showing at the WashU Spring Invitational. Sexton, along with her four fellow returners, made up the Belles’ lineup at the 2019 NCAA Division III Championship as Saint Mary’s notched a program record for the lowest 18-hole score by the team at an NCAA Championship event last May.

Joining the Belles this year are seven first-year student-athletes. Emily Bennett (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville HS), Erin Bennett (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville HS), Katherine Hopkins (Traverse City, Mich./Saint Francis), Isa Patacsil (San Antonio, Texas/Winston Churchill HS), Nani Patacsil (San Antonio, Texas/Winston Churchill HS), MacKenzie Weaver (Nappanee, Ind./NorthWood), and Hillary Ziemba (Jackson, Mich./Lumen Christi) will all vie for spots in the team’s top five all year as the Belles look to defend their conference title in 2019.

Saint Mary’s opens the 2019 fall schedule on Saturday, August 31 and Sunday, September 1 when they compete in the Lynn Schweizer Invitational hosted by Denison University. The first MIAA Jamboree of the season is set for Saturday, September 14 at Alma’s Pine River Country Club.
