ANGOLA, Ind. - Saint Mary's College Tennis defeated Trine University, 7-0, on Tuesday afternoon. The Belles improve to 15-5 (4-0 MIAA) on the year while the Thunder fall to 14-3 (2-2 MIAA).
Doubles
Saint Mary's took an early point as they took the first two doubles matches to claim the point. Junior
Anna Gardner (Houston, TX) and sophomore
Odessa Norton (Carmel, IN) got things started with an early 6-2 win at the number three doubles match. Senior
Evelyn Demblans-Dechans (Missoula, MT) and junior
Sophia Pischalko (Granger, IN) followed that up shortly after with a strong 6-2 win of their own to win the point. Trine closed out doubles play with a 6-4 win at number one.
Singles
Gardner kicked off singles play with a 6-1 6-2 win at the number two match before Pischalko followed with a 6-2 6-4 win at number five. Demblans-Dechans secured the match win for the Belles with a strong 6-3 6-3 win at the number four matchup. Sophomore
Shannon Dudy (Glenview, IL) followed that up with a big 7-5 6-3 win of her own at the number three match before sophomore
Lanie Brant (Stevensville, MI) added a 6-4 6-1 win of her own at number six. Senior
Emma Kealy (Hudson, OH) closed out the match with an intense back and forth battle at the number one spot, taking home an impressive 6-2 4-6 1-0 (10-5) victory.
UP NEXT FOR THE BELLES
Saint Mary's returns home for back-to-back home matches starting on Wednesday, April 15, as they play host to Adrian College at 4pm. The Belles follow that up with a matchup with Calvin University on April 18 at 11am as they celebrate Senior Day before the match.
