ALMA, Mich. - Saint Mary's College Tennis stayed unbeaten to start MIAA play with a 6-1 win over Alma College on Saturday. The Belles improve to 13-5 (2-0 MIAA) on the year while the Scots fall to 5-4 (0-1 MIAA).
Doubles
Saint Mary's kicked off the day with a strong start as they took all three doubles matches to take the doubles point and take an early 1-0 lead. Senior Emma Kealy (Hudson, OH) and sophomore Shannon Dudy (Glenview, IL) earned an impressive 6-2 win at the number one match before junior Anna Gardner (Houston, TX) and sophomore Odessa Norton (Carmel, IN) followed that up with a 6-3 win at number three. Senior Evelyn Demblans-Dechans (Missoula, MT) and junior Sophia Pischalko (Granger, IN) closed out doubles play with a hard-fought 6-4 win at number two.
Singles
Pischalko got singles play started with a quick 6-0 6-0 victory at the number five match. Kealy then followed that up shortly after as she took care of her opponent handily, 6-1 6-1, at number one. Demblans-Dechans secured the match win for the Belles at number four as she took home a 6-2 6-0 win. Sophomore Lanie Brant (Stevensville, MI) followed that with an impressive 6-2 6-1 win at number six. Dudy closed out her match at number four with a hard-fought battle, taking the match 6-2 6-4. Alma would take the number two match for their lone win of the day in a third set tiebreaker.
