NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Saint Mary's College Tennis 123, defeating Carthage College, 6-1, and defeating Indiana University Kokomo, 6-1. The Belles improve to 5-1 on the season.
Saint Mary's vs Carthage
Doubles
Saint Mary's made quick work of double play, taking two quick matches to earn the doubles point. Junior Anna Gardner (Houston, TX) and sophomore Odessa Norton (Carmel, IN) won at the number three match, 6-1, to kick off the day. Senior Evelyn Demblans-Dechans (Missoula, MT) and junior Sophia Pischalko (Granger, IN) followed up with a win at the number two match, 6-3. Carthage bounced back to take the number one double match in a tie breaker set.
Singles
The Belles kicked off singles play with back-to-back wins at numbers two and one. Gardner earned a clean 6-0 6-1 win at number two while senior Emma Kealy (Hudson, OH) earned a strong 6-1 6-3 win at number one. The Firebirds came back and took the number five match for their lone point of the day. Saint Mary's closed out the match with wins at numbers six, four, and three. Sophomore Lanie Brant (Stevensville, MI) earned the match clinching win at number six, 6-1 6-3 over her opponent. Demblans-Dechans and sophomore Shannon Dudy (Glenview, IL) earned wins to close out the day for the Belles. Demblans-Dechans won, 6-2 7-6 (7-3), at number four while Dudy won, 5-7 6-4 11-9, at number three.

Doubles
The Belles dominated in doubles taking home 6-1 wins at both the number one and two matches. Kealy and Dudy earned the win at number one while Brant and freshman Mia Graziano (Western Springs, IL) earned the win at number two. Gardner and Norton were awarded the win at number three after a withdrawal.
Singles
Graziano was awarded the win at the number six match after a withdrawal. Dudy would get the first singles win of the match for the Belles, winning 6-0 6-1 at the number three match. Brant would help secure the match for Saint Mary's for the second time on Saturday after taking home a 6-0 6-1 win at the number four match. Gardner had a strong showing at the number one singles match, taking care of her opponent in a tight match, 7-6 6-4. Kealy took home a calm win at the number two match, 6-1 6-0. The Cougars would take the final match of the day at the number five singles.
UP NEXT FOR THE BELLES
Saint Mary's will take a quick trip east as they take on both the College of Wooster and 18th-ranked Case Western Reserve University on Friday, February 27. The Belles then return home on Sunday, March 1, to host Oberlin College and Saint Francis University (IN) at Eastlake Athletic Club in Elkhart, IN.
