HOUSTON, Texas - The Saint Mary's golf team shot a 337 on day one of the 2022 NCAA Division III Championships at Bay Oak Country Club on a hot and sunny Tuesday afternoon.
No. 1 ranked Emory leads the field after a 292 on day one gave the Eagles a five-stroke lead over No. 12 ranked Washington University in St. Louis (297). Defending national champion and No. 3 ranked Methodist sits in third with a 300. Nine strokes separate ten teams sitting in fourth through 12th place after 18 holes of play. The Belles currently hold 20th place.
As a team, the Belles continued to have success on par five holes. Saint Mary's is tied for eighth in the field for best par five scoring after posting a collective five-over par on day one.
Annie Mascot from Washington University in St. Louis is the frontrunner for the individual national title after day one as the junior turned in a three-under par 69. Alison Takamiya from George Fox and Sarah Hsu from Oglethorpe are tied for second with matching 70s.
Isa Patacsil was strong over the final nine holes of her round with a two-over par effort on the front nine as the Belles started on No. 10 on day one. She is tied for 61st place after turning in an 80 to lead the way for Saint Mary's. Patacsil had a birdie on par five No. 16 and added a birdie on par three No. 8 on her second-to-last hole of the day. The junior posted seven pars and did not have a score above a double bogey. She was one-over par on par three holes and played an even-par round on par five holes in her first NCAA round.
Sydney Hruskoci posted an 82 on day one after going 41-41 as she sits in a tie for 85th. She led the team with three birdies on the day as the senior co-captain circled scores on par five No. 16, par four No. 18, and par five No. 7. Hruskoci did not have a score above a double bogey, was one-over on par five holes, and had four pars in the round.
Erin Bennett turned in an 87 on day one and is tied for 115th overall. The junior co-captain did not have a score above a double bogey in the round as she had six pars and added a two-over par effort on par five holes.
Haley Angel and
Katherine Hopkins each shot rounds of 88 to hold a share of 119th as the pair both posted one-over par scoring efforts on par five holes. Angel was five-over on her final nine holes of play and had eight pars on Tuesday. Hopkins also had a stronger showing after making the turn as the junior circled a birdie on par five No. 7 and added four pars on the front nine.
Day two of the NCAA Division III Championships begins for the Belles at 8:10 a.m. CDT.
