NORMAL, Ill. - The Saint Mary's golf team posted a solid 308 and are in a tie for fifth place after day one of the Illinois Wesleyan University Fall Classic at Ironwood Golf Course.
Carthage holds the overall team lead after a 305 on Friday. Washington University in St. Louis, Grinnell, and Wisconsin-Whitewater are in a three-way tie for second with matching 306s. The Belles, meanwhile, are tied with Rose-Hulman as the two schools sit a stroke ahead of host Illinois Wesleyan. Paige Sanfelippo from DePauw shot the low round of the day with a one-under par 71.
Sydney Hruskoci led the Belles with a two-over par 74 and is tied for seventh overall. The senior co-captain posted a pair of birdies, 12 pars, and no score higher than a bogey on the day.
Joanna James fired a 77 with a birdie and 12 pars as she is tied for 19th.
Katelyn Tokarz strung together three consecutive birdies on the front nine on her way to a 78 and a share of 23rd.
Katherine Hopkins rounded out the team score with a 79. The junior tallied a birdie and was one-under on par five holes on Friday as she sits in a tie for 30th.
Erin Bennett had a birdie on her front nine, was one-under on par three holes in the round, and shot an 86 (t-76th) as the fifth golfer in the Belles' lineup.
Day two begins at 9:00 a.m. CDT on Saturday.
