MARSHALL, Mich. - The Saint Mary's golf team shot a 336 and took second place in a field of 16 teams at the Olivet College Kyle Campbell Memorial Invitational at the Medalist Golf Club.
Hope claimed the team title after Saturday's 323 gave the Flying Dutch a 36-hole total of 638. The Belles edged Ohio Northern with a combined score of 660, and the Polar Bears were third after a round-best team score of 321 on day two. Sydney Weiner of DePauw captured the individual title with a two-day total of 153 (74-79).
Katherine Hopkins led the Belles with a two-day score of 162 (79-83) to finish tied for 11th place overall. The junior finished the event with 21 total pars and was in the top ten in both par three and par four scoring.
Katelyn Tokarz added an 83 on day two and was 13th overall (164). The freshman collected 17 pars on the weekend and was among the tournament leaders in par four scoring with a 4.55 average.
Joanna James was a stroke back with an 84 on Saturday. The freshman finished with a two-day score of 173 and a share of 35th while amassing 17 pars and tallying a 4.45 scoring average on par four holes.
Erin Bennett wrapped up the team score with an 86. The junior also had a two-day score of 173 (t35th).
Sydney Hruskoci was the fifth player in the lineup for the Belles and shot an 89 to finish tied for 15th (166). Hruskoci had 19 pars on the weekend and had a 5.25 scoring average on par five holes.
Ashley Brewster and
Haley Angel were competing as individuals on the weekend. Brewster matched her Friday score with an 84 on Saturday to tie for 25th overall. The sophomore posted 21 pars on the weekend and had a 5.38 scoring average on par five holes. Angel carded an 88 and was tied for 35th with a 173 on the weekend. Angel recorded a 3.38 scoring average on par three holes.
The Belles begin their conference slate of competition on Tuesday when they travel to Albion's Duck Lake Country Club for the first MIAA Jamboree, which is set to get under way at 1:00 p.m.
