KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Saint Mary's tennis team came up on the short end of a 7-2 conference final against Kalamazoo on Saturday.
McLeod was on the short end of a 6-1, 6-2 final at five singles, and
Lilly Chamberlin had a 6-2, 6-2 setback at two singles.
Megan Davy fell in a 6-3, 6-1 competition at one singles.
Alyssa Gulli was in a tightly contested match at four singles but came up short in a 7-5, 6-2 final.
Lucy Chamberlin took the opening game of her three singles match before her counterpart forced a tiebreaker, and the sophomore was narrowly edged out in the super tiebreaker in a 3-6, 6-3, 10-8 battle.
Jane Price, meanwhile, battled back from a loss in her first set and won a tiebreaker in the second set before ultimately prevailing in a 1-6, 7-6 (7-3), 10-5 thriller at six singles.
Several Belles competed in exhibition matches on the day.
Nicole Becker and
Meredith Heckert took an 8-3 exhibition doubles victory while
Kalyn Borger and
Annika Smith had an 8-2 win. Smith fell in a close 8-6 exhibition singles match while Becker won 7-4 and Borger was an 8-6 victor.
Nikki Rust came up short in an 8-5 exhibition singles match of her own.
The Belles (4-4, 2-2 MIAA) are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Hope for a 4:00 p.m. match.
