Gumma, Schutz, and Schiesser Named CSC Academic All-District

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Saint Mary's College Basketball seniors Lauren Gumma (Troy, MI) and Julia Schutz (Dyer, IN) along with sophomore Avery Schiesser (Austin, TX) were named College Sports Communicators Academic All-District for NCAA Division III. This is Schutz's second time receiving the honor while it is Gumma and Schiesser's first.

To be eligible for the CSC Academic All-District Award, the student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale). They must have reached a sophomore athletic and academic standing at the institution and must have completed at least one full academic year at the institution.

Gumma, the Biology major and Chemistry and Business Administration minor, averaged five points per game for the Belles while shooting 46% from the field and 49% from three. She would score a career high 14 points on January 18 at Adrian, going 5-6 from the field and 4-5 from three. She would also grab 51 rebounds while dishing out 30 assists while playing 20.4 minutes per game.

Schutz, the Chemistry major, led the Belles in scoring this season averaging 14.6 points per game, shooting 40.3% from the field. She would score a career high 32 points on November 9 against Lake Forest and would grab a career high 17 rebounds in the same game. She would also record three double-doubles on the year. Schutz would lead the team in rebounding, averaging 6.6 per game, and would average 2 assists per game while playing 26.7 minutes per game and starting in 23 games.

Schiesser, the Intended Business Marketing major, would average 1.2 points per game on 34.6% shooting. She would also average 2.7 rebounds per game, playing in 23 games while averaging 13.7 minutes per game. She would also grab a career-high six rebounds on two separate occasions, on December 21 at Elmhurst and January 15 at Olivet.

The Belles as a team finished the year with a 6-19 overall record and a 3-13 MIAA record, finishing eighth in the conference.
